Death Prayer
To my great-grandmother (very Catholic - 1901) At the memorial ceremony for my great-grandmother, we pray the following prayer at the grave: Most gracious Jesus, you love souls; For the agony of your most sacred heart, for the pain of your Immaculate Mother, I beg you: cleanse with your blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in agony and will die today. Amen.
The bread
"I am the living bread that comes down from heaven; whoever eats of this bread will live forever." Truly, you divine friend of men! You are the bread of heaven - your word (Logos) is truth. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever - your word is life. Behold, one of our brothers and yours is in agony. Show him your power and love! Be for him a strengthening bread from heaven into eternal life! Nurture his belief that he will conquer the world. Nurture his hope that he will leave the physical with calm and joy.
Feed his love, that before he dies he dies entirely of sin and lives for you alone. Let him experience your life force that he may live forever. Feel that you are life and resurrection. Amen. All the best on your final journey and rest in peace!
